Who Started It
So who started the Cold War? Well according to Churchill the Cold War was caused by the Soviet Union. He makes this clear when he says that "An iron curtain has descended upon the continent" he then continues to discuss how major cities have fallen under the iron curtain and that every single city is subject to Soviet influence. President Truman also makes this clear in his Truman Doctrine where it states that any country in European should be given aid if they need it and if they are not a communist country. He also says this to prevent a domino effect of countries switching over to become communist showing that communism is the enemy and must be contained.
However the Soviets say it isn't their fault for causing the Cold War. For one a telegram sent from a Soviet Ambassador states "The foreign policy of the United States, which reflects the imperialist tendencies of American monopolistic capital" showing that the US wants to expand its trading empire and with communism in the way it can't so it will go to war against communism to get rid of it or to prevent it from taking hold. Even a previous Vice President says that the Cold War is caused by the US. He makes this clear by showing that "we are preparing ourselves to win the war which we regard as inevitable or (2) that we are trying to build up a predominance [largest amount] of force to intimidate the rest of mankind." which shows that the US is preparing for a war when the Soviet Union does not want to fight instead they need to rebuild and so do so many other countries.
